Measuring guide: how to measure correctly

Every band from adorit.be is made to measure — so taking the right measurement is what makes it fit perfectly. This page combines all measuring instructions: for Biothane collars, FieldTrial collars, LEUCHTIE and blood-tracking (Schweißhalsung) collars.

General measuring rules

Depending on the band you order, a different circumference is measured. The basic rules:

No tape measure at hand? A piece of string works just as well: wrap it around, mark it, then measure against a ruler. And always measure directly on the dog.

1. Regular Biothane collar (buckle or click fastener): measuring the neck

  1. Have the dog stand or sit — head up normally, not sniffing the ground.
  2. Find the spot where the collar sits — about halfway down the neck, where your current collar lies.
  3. Place a flexible tape measure — snug, with one finger of room.
  4. Note the value in centimetres and enter it exactly in the configurator — we build to your measurement.

This applies to buckle collars just as much as click-fastener models. For thick-coated dogs, measure with the coat in its normal state — not freshly clipped.

Still-growing dogs (puppies and young dogs)

For growing dogs we recommend starting with a simple Biothane collar with buckle. Bicolour models and fixed sizes are meant for fully grown dogs only. For growing dogs, please add age and breed as a note to your order.

2. FieldTrial collar and LEUCHTIE: measuring the head

Both are pulled over the head — so here you measure the head circumference, not the neck.

  1. Find the widest point of the head — right in front of the ears.
  2. Wrap a flexible tape once around the head — at this point, snug.
  3. Note the value in centimetres.

Choosing the LEUCHTIE size

Sizes come in 2.5 cm steps. If you are between two sizes, take the next SMALLER size.

The FieldTrial collar is also ordered by head circumference — it is pulled over the head to put on and then sits around the neck.

3. Blood-tracking collar (Schweißhalsung): give neck AND head

The blood-tracking collar is made exactly to measure. Please provide both measurements — neck circumference AND head circumference (two input fields in the configurator). We build precisely to both values.

In short: Regular Biothane collar → neck. FieldTrial and LEUCHTIE → head. Blood-tracking collar → neck and head, made exactly to measure.

Frequently asked questions

My dog has a narrow head and a thick neck — which LEUCHTIE size?

Always choose by head circumference. The LEUCHTIE has to pass over the head; on the narrow neck it will then sit a little loose — that is normal and fine.

Can I measure an existing collar?

No. Always measure directly on the dog.

What about the coat?

For thick-coated dogs, measure with the coat in its normal state — not freshly clipped.

Our dog is still growing — what should we order?
