Biothane: Width and Fastener for Your Collar
When ordering a handmade Biothane collar from adorit.be you have various options regarding Biothane width and fastener. Alongside practical aspects, taste always counts here too.
Biothane width 19 mm, 25 mm — and the Bicolor models
We make plain Biothane collars in two widths — plus the two-layer Bicolor models.
- 19 mm — the narrower strap with the smaller buckle. Our guideline: with a neck circumference of less than 35 cm we recommend the small buckle, i.e. the 19 mm Biothane collar. This width and the matching buckle are light.
- 25 mm — the wider strap with the larger buckle. It lies wider on the neck and is heavier.
- Bicolor (19/25 mm and 25/50 mm) — made in two layers. Upper layer in 19 or 25 mm, underneath a wider layer in 25 or 50 mm. With 19/25 mm you choose both colours yourself; on the 25/50 mm model the lower layer is always orange. Your print is applied to the upper layer.
In the shop you find every width as a collar without and with print. If you cannot find your preferred variant, feel free to contact us by mail: [email protected]
Pin buckle or Clic fastener?
As a rule, all fittings and rivets are made of brass. The Clic fasteners are made of very sturdy plastic with a safety button. Do you have other wishes? Mail us at [email protected] and we will look into the possibilities with you.
| Pin buckle | Clic fastener | |
|---|---|---|
| Adjustable? | Yes | No |
| Neck circumference | the stated neck circumference sits in the middle of the adjustment range; 2–4 cm of play in both directions (depending on the model) | a fixed size, not adjustable |
| For puppies and young dogs? | Yes — state age and breed in the note of your order, then I will make the holes so it can "grow along". | Yes, but since it is not adjustable, it cannot "grow along", so on dogs that are still growing it will not fit forever. |
| Measure accurately? | Important, so that the perfect hole sits in the middle. | Important, since it is not adjustable. |
Which width suits my dog?
The right width is a matter of taste; both widths are strong. Customers order wide collars for small dogs from us — and vice versa.
- Coat and build: How much coat lies between collar and neck — and which width suits your dog?
- Use: Is the collar meant for everyday life or for hunting and work? Consider how grippy the collar should be — a wider strap is easier to grab when you briefly hold your dog. If the dog has to pull during work, wide collars are more comfortable for the dog. At Field Trial only very light collars are allowed; for that you should order a FieldTrial collar.
- Need for adjustment: You want to be able to adjust the size? Then the pin buckle is the right choice. If you choose the Clic fastener, the size is fixed. FieldTrial collars are also not adjustable.
- Taste: Some find a wide strap exactly right on a compact dog, others swear by a narrow strap on a large dog. Customers order both from us — and both are good.
Torn between 19 and 25 mm? Write or mail us — we will gladly think along with you ([email protected]) or via the contact page. With a neck circumference of less than 35 cm we recommend the small buckle.
Measure first, then choose
Always measure the neck circumference carefully with a measuring tape before ordering — how to do that exactly is explained step by step in our measuring guide. With the Clic fastener correct measuring is especially important: the size is fixed and cannot be adjusted afterwards.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Can I still adjust the size later?
With the pin buckle yes: the stated neck circumference sits in the middle of the adjustment range, and you can adjust 2–4 cm in both directions — depending on the model. That is not possible with the Clic fastener; its size is fixed.
Is the Clic fastener also suitable for puppies and young dogs?
Possible, but not optimal. The Clic fastener is better for adult dogs. Because the size is fixed, the Clic collar does not grow along with a young dog.
Which width for a neck circumference under 35 cm?
With a neck circumference of less than 35 cm we recommend a collar with a small buckle. With a larger neck circumference both widths are possible.
What does 19/25 or 25/50 mm mean on the Bicolor collar?
Bicolor collars are made in two layers: the narrower upper layer (19 or 25 mm) lies on a wider lower layer (25 or 50 mm). On the 25/50 mm model the lower layer is always orange; you choose the upper colour yourself — the print is printed on the upper layer.
