LEUCHTIE LED Collar for Dogs: Clearly Visible Through the Dark Season
When the days get shorter, a large part of everyday life with your dog happens in the dark: the round before work in the early dawn, the walk after work in the evening, paths without streetlights. An LED collar makes your dog clearly visible at dusk and in the dark — to drivers, cyclists and to you yourself. This buying guide explains what makes a good LED collar, how the three LEUCHTIE models differ and what you should consider before buying.
Why a LED collar?
In autumn and winter a large share of the dog walks take place in the dark. Dog and owner are hardly visible then: on field paths, along roads or in the forest a glowing collar creates clear visibility — without outside light, on which a reflector depends.
- Road safety: Drivers and cyclists recognise a glowing dog at first glance.
- Free running and orientation: In the field, in the forest or when several dogs play together — you immediately see where your dog is.
- Hunting and work: Hunting and other working dogs are also out at dusk and in the early morning; a reliable, weatherproof light source helps there too.
Practical with multiple dogs: with different colors you always know who is who.
Good to know: a LED collar is a visibility collar — for walking on a lead a sturdy collar is needed as well. More on this in the safety notes.
The LEUCHTIE models compared
LEUCHTIE collars come in three models. They differ mainly in their power supply and light duration:
| Model | Power | Light duration | Suitable for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LEUCHTIE Plus | 2×AAA batteries | approx. 100 hrs | the classic with motion sensor | from €49.99 |
| LEUCHTIE Easy Charge | USB-rechargeable NiMH battery | charge approx. 1x per week | lots of use without battery changes | from €59.99 |
| LEUCHTIE Mini | 2×AAAA batteries | approx. 50 hrs | small dogs | from €39.99 |
All three models are also available as the Premium version with magnetic switch at a surcharge of €10 — it can additionally be switched on and off manually (see below).
In brief: the Plus is the classic with long light duration and easy battery change. The Easy Charge charges via USB and so saves batteries. The Mini is the compact version for small dogs.
The motion sensor
A well-considered detail of the LEUCHTIE: the motion sensor: It switches the light on and off by itself — a switch you would have to operate does not exist on the standard version.
- Switches on automatically: with the battery part pointing down — the normal state on a worn collar — the light switches on automatically.
- Switches off automatically: with the battery part pointing up, also when the collar is set down, the light goes out by itself after about one minute.
- Premium version: with the magnetic switch the LEUCHTIE can additionally be switched on and off manually.
Waterproof and fit for daily life
The dark season is often wet and dirty. LEUCHTIE collars are 100% waterproof: swimming, mud and rain do no harm — so you do not have to plan your round around the weather.
12 light colours
The LEUCHTIE glows in twelve colours: neon green, turquoise, ice blue, white, sunny yellow, blue, lavender, sunset orange, hot pink, red, lime and blush. Among the popular choices are neon green, red, sunset orange and turquoise — in the end, though, the choice of colour is purely a matter of taste.
Measuring the right size
The LEUCHTIE size does not follow the neck circumference but the head circumference — the collar is pulled over the head. This is how to measure correctly:
- Measure the head at the widest point, directly in front of the ears.
- The neck circumference does not matter for the size.
- If your measurement lies between two sizes, choose the smaller one.
You find the step-by-step instructions with pictures in our measuring guide: Measuring the head circumference for a LEUCHTIE correctly.
Safety notes
- Never attach the lead to the LEUCHTIE! The LEUCHTIE is a visibility collar and not a lead collar. Walk your dog on a sturdy collar or harness — for example on a handmade Biothane collar from adorit.be.
- Not a toy: The LEUCHTIE is not a toy and not a chew toy — keep this in mind, especially with young dogs and children.
- Store batteries safely: Keep batteries out of reach of children and dogs and dispose of spent batteries correctly.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Does the motion sensor also work in winter?
Yes, the sensor also works in the cold. It is possible that the light duration turns out somewhat shorter in severe cold.
How long do the batteries or the rechargeable battery last?
That depends on the model: the LEUCHTIE Plus glows for approx. 100 hours with its two AAA batteries, the LEUCHTIE Mini for approx. 50 hours with two AAAA batteries. The LEUCHTIE Easy Charge should be charged overnight about once a week depending on use.
Is my dog allowed to swim with the LEUCHTIE?
Yes. LEUCHTIE collars are 100% waterproof and take swimming, mud and rain without any problem.
What size does my dog need?
Measure the head circumference at the widest point in front of the ears — the neck circumference is irrelevant. If the value lies between two sizes, take the smaller one. Our measuring guide shows it step by step.
Can I wash the LEUCHTIE?
Not in the washing machine. The LEUCHTIE is cleaned by hand: for everyday use, wiping it off with a damp cloth is sufficient.
How much does a LEUCHTIE cost?
The LEUCHTIE Mini starts at €39.99, the Plus you get from €49.99 and the Easy Charge from €59.99. The Premium version with magnetic switch costs a €10 surcharge on all models.
